Keep those endorphins flowing even in the colder months.
We really don’t blame you for losing your motivation to exercise over the last few weeks. Not only have the temperatures dropped in the lead up to winter, but daylight savings also means that it’s dark by the time you leave the office, aka your WFH desk. On top of that, we’re all limited to at home workouts because of the global pandemic. Despite all of this, we’re motivated to not let excuses get between us staying fit and healthy during winter. If you’re constantly finding yourself reaching for a glass of vino on the couch instead of your workout gear, here are 3 ways to get you motivated and moving this winter.
1. Prepare a plan of attack
Just like Benjamin Franklin said “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”. Ensuring you have a clear plan for your workout means there is no excuse not to get it done. Ensuring you're not fumbling around on your phone trying to find an online workout for 25 minutes or wasting any time convincing yourself that you’ll start tomorrow instead. We recommend spending 15 minutes every Sunday to write down your workout schedule for the week. Ensure it is specific and achievable, if you haven't worked out once in isolation then start with 1-2 workouts per week and gradually work your way up. Additionally, have your gym gear and weights ready to go the day prior to ensure you can get straight into it.
2. Try a new workout
Sometimes staying motivated is just about finding what works for you. Perhaps a super intense workout is best for when you can eventually get back into the gym, so why not use this opportunity to try something new. Pilates and dance workouts will still leave you feeling puffed and sweaty while being a little bit kinder on your body. You can always invest in some light dumbbells and a booty band and create your own slow and controlled circuit. Read our blog here on best at home workouts you can try.
3. Get an accountability buddy
In some parts of Australia you’re allowed to exercise with a friend, so why not lock in a few weekly sessions at your local park to keep you accountable. If that isn't an option for you, then workout over Zoom. Having a friend by your side will motivate you to get out of bed and get moving, even if it is virtually.
Last but not least, we all know that a cute new workout outfit is super motivating, so if an online shopping spree is what you need then go for it babe. We’re not here to judge.
