This girlboss is on a mission to empower women through stylish and rebellious workout gear worldwide.
Australian native, Tully Humphrey, created her sports luxe activewear label, Tully Lou back in 2013 as a way to motivate and empower women to get up and live healthier and happier lives. Fast forward to 2019 and Jenna Dewan is on the front cover of US Cosmopolitan wearing her threads.
Aside from designing, she is a passionate yoga instructor, motivational speaker and self proclaimed coffee enthusiast. Here we chat to Tully about life, beauty and how she got to the point where Vanessa Hudgens and Lucy Hale are wearing her designs on the streets of LA.
Hi Tully! Let's start off by asking what a day in the life of Tully looks like?
What I love about my days is that they are always different, however I always start and end them the same way! I wake up and think of 3 things I am grateful for. I find this always sets me up for the day and puts me in a really grateful and happy mood.
Post gratitude, I workout. I always get in some kind of movement in the morning so it motivates me for the day. I’ll check my emails over coffee and breaky then prioritise my to-do list from super urgent to not so urgent. Then i'm either designing, meeting with my team, taking skype calls, writing, creating content or shooting Tully Lou product - it’s always changing!
Night time is me time. I love to make a healthy meal then sit down and watch some Netflix, read a book and mediate all before bed. Oh and check in with my family - that is a must.
What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs out there?
Always follow your gut! I have made numerous mistakes in business because I listened to other people or was worried what other people would think when deep down in my heart I knew I wasn’t making the right decision. When you know, you know so don’t ignore those gut instincts even when sometimes the decision might be a risk. I am all about takings risks in business because if you don’t take it someone else will.
Secondly, don't be afraid to ask for help! I have made this mistake many times. When I first started I was too scared to ask for help because I thought it was a sign of failure and have since learned it is absolutely not.
What inspires you to keep going when things get tough in business?
Remembering how far I have come! I have been running Tully Lou for 5 years now, which is crazy to me. So, I like to reflect on the last 5 years, the mistakes we/I have made and of course the growth and how many people we are inspiring to live healthier lives every day constantly inspires me!
What is your favourite motivational quote?
“Stop comparing yourself to others, you can only control one life, and that is yours!”
I think this is such an important quote these days with social media.
What is your favourite place in the world and what makes it so special?
I have a few! I will start with my home town Kyneton in country Victoria. I have so many amazing memories growing up playing outside with friends and family. I think the memories of just being a child and carefree makes it so special for me. Greece is another special place for me. I again have amazing memories of friends and family there that it just makes my heart happy whenever I think about it.
Are there are skincare products you love to have with you while travelling?
I have to take a lip balm (my lips get so dry when traveling), also a good BB Cream for a light coverage that doesn’t clog my skin. I love a Hydrating Mist and also a face mask for my face while i'm mid-flight.
Last question, what is your favourite Bali Body product?
The BB cream - I am obsessed! It’s super hydrating with nice coverage and leaves this beautiful dewy look that leaves you looking fresh with that healthy summer glow.
Keep up to date with Tully and her adventures here.
